How To Recover Chair Cushion

Recovering chair cushions is a great way to update the look of your furniture without having to buy new ones. It's also a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to recover chair cushions:

Materials You'll Need:

* New fabric (enough to cover the cushions plus a few inches for overlap) * Scissors * Measuring tape * Staple gun * Staples * Hammer * Needle and thread (optional)

Instructions:

1.

Remove the old fabric.

Use the scissors to carefully cut away the old fabric from the cushion. Be careful not to cut into the cushion itself. 2.

Measure and cut the new fabric.

Measure the length and width of the cushion, and then add a few inches to each side for overlap. Cut a piece of new fabric to this size. 3.

Wrap the new fabric around the cushion.

Place the new fabric over the cushion, and then wrap it around the edges. Overlap the fabric by a few inches on each side. 4.

Secure the fabric with staples.

Use the staple gun to secure the fabric to the cushion. Start by stapling the fabric in the center of each side, and then work your way around the edges. Be sure to pull the fabric taut as you staple it so that it doesn't wrinkle. 5.

Trim the excess fabric.

Once the fabric is stapled in place, use the scissors to trim away any excess fabric. 6.

Reattach the cushion to the chair.

If the cushion is attached to the chair with screws or bolts, simply unscrew or unbolt them and then reattach the cushion to the chair. If the cushion is glued to the chair, you will need to use a sharp knife to carefully cut away the old glue. Once the old glue is removed, you can apply new glue and reattach the cushion to the chair.

Tips:

* If you are using a patterned fabric, be sure to center the pattern on the cushion. * To create a more finished look, you can use a needle and thread to sew the edges of the fabric together. * If you are recovering a cushion that has buttons or other embellishments, be sure to remove them before you start working. You can then reattach them to the new fabric once it is in place.
