How To Recover Chair Cushions

Chair cushions can get worn and torn over time, but that doesn't mean you have to replace the entire chair. Recovering chair cushions is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to give your old chairs a new look. Here's how to do it:

Materials You'll Need:

New fabric
Scissors
Measuring tape
Staple gun and staples
Foam rubber (if needed)

Instructions:

1. Remove the old fabric from the cushion. Use a seam ripper or a sharp knife to carefully cut the stitches that hold the fabric in place. Be careful not to cut the foam rubber.

2. Measure and cut the new fabric. The new fabric should be slightly larger than the cushion, so that you have enough fabric to wrap around the edges and staple it in place.

3. Place the new fabric over the cushion, centering it evenly. Wrap the fabric around the edges of the cushion and staple it in place. Be sure to pull the fabric taut so that it's smooth and wrinkle-free.

4. If the cushion is too soft or too firm, you can add or remove foam rubber to adjust the firmness. To add foam rubber, cut a piece of foam rubber to the same size as the cushion and place it on top of the cushion. To remove foam rubber, carefully peel away a layer of foam rubber from the bottom of the cushion.

5. Once you're happy with the firmness of the cushion, staple the fabric in place around the edges. Trim any excess fabric.

Your chair cushions are now recovered and ready to use!

Tips:

When choosing a new fabric, consider the style of your chair and the room where it will be used. You may also want to consider the durability of the fabric, especially if you have children or pets.
If you're not sure how to staple the fabric in place, you can use a glue gun instead. Just be sure to apply the glue sparingly, so that it doesn't seep through the fabric.
If your chair cushions are very old or damaged, you may need to replace the foam rubber. You can purchase foam rubber at most fabric stores.
